Character Setting

Edit

Tiona Hiryute is a first-class Amazonian adventurer and a senior member of the Loki Familia in the series “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?”.

She is known for her carefree personality, her massive twin-bladed weapon, and the title “Great Severing (Amazon)”, as well as for idolizing Bell Cranel as a real-life Argonaut.

Name: Tiona Hiryute

Gender: Female

Age: 17

Height: 165 cm

Race: Amazoness

Occupation: Adventurer

Affiliation: Kali Familia → Loki Familia

Level: 5 → 6 (after the 59th floor expedition)

Alias / Title: Great Severing (Amazon)

Home Country: Telskyura, a peninsula nation and Amazoness holy land ruled by the Kali Familia

Voice Actor (Japanese version): Rie Murakawa

Tiona Hiryute is a short-haired Amazoness adventurer belonging to the Loki Familia.

After the expedition to the 59th floor of the Dungeon, she ranks up to Level 6 and is counted among the familia’s first-class elites.

She serves as one of the Loki Familia’s executives despite her playful demeanor.

Her twin elder sister, Tione Hiryute, is also a senior member of the same familia.

Tiona originally hails from Telskyura, a brutal nation-familia ruled by the goddess Kali.

There she was raised in a culture where Amazoness girls kill each other and monsters in an arena to grow stronger.

Tiona has a bright, sunny, and extremely straightforward personality.

She is quick to befriend others and rarely shows fear or hesitation when meeting new people.

She is not academically gifted and is often called “idiot Amazoness” by Bete Loga.

However, this “stupidity” mostly refers to school-type studying; in battle and emergencies she can make sharp, practical decisions.

She cares deeply about the Loki Familia, which gave her and her sister a new home.

She treasures her comrades and shows no mercy to those who harm them.

At the same time, her harsh upbringing made her pragmatic about death.

She sees casualties as an unfortunate but “normal” part of an adventurer’s life and does not cling to grudges, even when comrades die, though she still feels anger and sadness.

Tiona is surprisingly open-minded and accepting of what she sees in front of her.

During the Xenos incident she was able to calmly recognize that the intelligent monsters protected their own comrades just like humans do, and she refused to simply follow the crowd.

Unlike most Amazonesses, she is almost completely uninterested in romance or sex, which makes her unusual among her people.

Her “passion” instead manifests as a form of battle mania: in combat she wears a wild, happy grin and eagerly pushes through desperate situations.

Her mentor Bache once described Tiona as “the greatest idiot and the greatest beast in all of Telskyura.”

That mix of reckless joy, ferocity, and kindness defines much of who Tiona is.

Tiona has short black hair and a constant, friendly smile.

She is usually seen in revealing, Amazoness-style outfits that emphasize ease of movement and aggression.

In stark contrast to her sister Tione, Tiona is flat-chested and very self-conscious about it.

She jokingly complains that Tione “stole everything from her in the womb,” and this insecurity is a recurring gag.

Her body is lean and lightly built rather than voluptuous, with tight, well-trained muscles from years of combat.

Even so, she often laments her lack of curves compared to other women around her.

After the expedition to the deep floors and the battle against the Corrupted Spirit, her right arm becomes grotesquely altered when reattached through a parasite monster.

This mutated arm remains even after the root-like growths in her body vanish with the Corrupted Spirit’s defeat.

Tione Hiryute

Tione is Tiona’s twin elder sister and the closest person in her life.

They bicker often, but their sisterly bond is extremely strong.

Tiona sees Tione as a “moon” that has always stayed beside her and lit her path since childhood.

During their days in Telskyura, Tiona secretly took on deadly “rituals” in Tione’s place to protect her from further mental and physical damage.

When Tiona loses her arm in the deep floors, it is revealed that Tione casually thinks “I can just give her my own arm if it comes to that,” showing a love that borders on frighteningly heavy.

The Hiryute sisters fight with devastating coordination, their teamwork likened to demons ravaging their enemies.

Ais Wallenstein and Lefiya Viridis

Within the Loki Familia, Tiona is especially close to Ais Wallenstein and Lefiya Viridis.

The three often move together as a tight-knit group.

To Tiona, Ais is both a dear friend and someone she cherishes like a younger sister.

She worries about Ais’s emotional scars and supports her in both training and daily life.

Lefiya, in turn, looks up to Tiona as a strong and cheerful senior.

Tiona’s lighthearted teasing and open acceptance help Lefiya grow more confident.

Bache Calif

Bache Calif, the current vice-captain of the Kali Familia, was once Tiona’s instructor in Telskyura.

Bache drilled brutal combat techniques into her but also became a kind of second elder sister figure.

Bache was the one who read hero tales aloud to Tiona when the girl could not yet read properly.

Through these stories, Tiona learned to smile and found something beyond endless killing.

Though Tiona eventually left Telskyura, she still carries deep respect and affection for Bache.

Bache herself was secretly shocked when Tiona learned language faster than she did.

Bell Cranel

Bell Cranel, captain of the Hestia Familia, holds a very special place in Tiona’s heart.

She first truly notices him when he dares to stand and fight against the one-horned Minotaur in the Dungeon.

Watching his desperate but heroic struggle, Tiona superimposes her beloved fairy-tale hero Argonaut onto Bell.

From that moment she affectionately calls him “Argonaut-kun” and becomes a self-proclaimed fan and supporter.

Tiona treats Bell warmly compared to many other members of the Loki Familia.

She trains with him multiple times alongside Ais and Tione, helping him grow as an adventurer.

When asked her “type” on instinct, she answers: “Human, similar age or younger,” a description that fits Bell perfectly.

Their hobbies also match, especially their shared love of hero tales.

Later, during the deep-floor expedition, Bell saves Tiona’s life by transferring the parasitic monster into himself and burning it away.

This further strengthens her admiration and emotional connection to him.

Other Loki Familia Members

Tiona’s easygoing nature lets her get along with most of her comrades.

Even Bete Loga, who mocks her as an “idiot Amazoness,” fights smoothly with her in real battles.

She deeply respects Gareth Landrock, who once defeated her and Tione during their entry trial, earning their obedience and loyalty.

She is also grateful to Finn Deimne and Riveria Ljos Alf as leaders who gave the sisters a true home.

During the Freya Familia conflict and the “faction war,” Tiona is especially frustrated that the Loki Familia cannot formally participate.

She vents her anger at Gareth but quickly pivots to “loophole” cooperation by helping Bell with his training.

Childhood in Telskyura

From the moment she could understand the world, Tiona grew up in Telskyura under the Kali Familia.

There, it was customary for Amazonesses to refine themselves by lethal combat against each other and monsters in an arena.

Tiona and Tione spent their days fighting to the death in this gladiatorial environment.

Tiona reached Level 2 by the age of five, an extraordinary growth fueled by constant life-or-death battles.

Due to this harsh upbringing, young Tiona did not laugh at all and felt emotionally dead.

Her life was an endless loop of combat and training, with no joy or purpose.

At age six, she found a scrap of paper with a hero tale in a corridor.

Unable to properly read the common tongue, she asked Bache to read it to her.

Discovery of Hero Tales

Bache herself did not understand the language, so she asked Kali to add phonetic hints so she could read it aloud.

Through this, Tiona encountered the world of hero stories for the first time.

The stories captivated her, especially the comedic hero tale of Argonaut.

She begged Kali for more books, eagerly devouring story after story and learning the common language from them.

As she absorbed these tales, Tiona’s personality changed.

She began to laugh, smile, and develop a vibrant curiosity that contrasted sharply with Tione’s increasingly rough and violent demeanor.

Tiona also turned out to be unexpectedly quick at learning to read and write.

She learned the common tongue faster than both Tione and Bache, secretly shocking her mentor.

Tiona was the one who later taught the common tongue to Tione, something Tione found humiliating.

Still, this literacy became the door to the heroic ideals that would shape Tiona’s life.

Protecting Tione and Leaving Telskyura

As Tione underwent increasingly severe training under Argana Calif (Bache’s relative) and grew more brutalized, Tiona worried deeply for her sister.

Unable to watch Tione’s mind and body be destroyed, she volunteered to take her place in deadly “rituals.”

In these rituals, she killed many of her fellow Amazonesses to protect Tione.

The memory of this slaughter remains a lingering trauma that sometimes appears in her dreams.

At age seven, a ritual to ascend to Level 3 approached, requiring Tiona and Tione to fight each other to the death.

Tiona absolutely refused to kill her sister.

Instead, she went to Kali directly and honestly requested permission for both of them to leave Telskyura.

To their surprise, Kali agreed with little fuss, granting them freedom.

Journey to Orario and Joining the Loki Familia

After leaving Telskyura, the sisters wandered from familia to familia.

By age twelve, they arrived in Orario already at Level 3.

Many familias tried to recruit the powerful pair.

The sisters laid down a condition: they would join only the familia of whoever could defeat them.

They proceeded to crush all challengers, growing increasingly disappointed with Orario’s adventurers.

That changed when they encountered the Loki Familia.

In a match against Gareth Landrock and the Loki Familia elites, they were finally defeated.

Impressed by their strength and charmed by Loki, Tiona and Tione agreed to join.

For Tiona, the Loki Familia became a new “family” beyond blood.

She treasures them as dearly as Tione and openly expresses her happiness at finding a true home.

Xenos Incident

During the chaos on Daedalus Street involving the intelligent monsters known as Xenos, Tiona feels an unusual difficulty in fighting them.

She senses that their behavior is different from ordinary monsters.

When Wiene, a young dragon girl, throws herself in front of an attack to protect Lyd’s ally Luu (or another companion), Tiona’s suspicions are confirmed.

Even without great analytical skill, she realizes that these creatures care about their comrades just as humans do.

Moved by this realization, Tiona deliberately refrains from killing and chooses to let them escape.

She imagines that Bell might be feeling the same conflict and empathy she feels.

Freya’s Charm and the Faction War

When Freya casts an all-encompassing charm on Orario, Tiona is affected like most others.

Under its influence, she perceives Bell as one of Freya’s dependents and treats him as an enemy.

Later, she suddenly feels a desire to read the tale of Argonaut again.

However, reading it brings her no joy; instead, she feels a hollow, almost tearful emptiness.

Once Freya’s charm is broken, Tiona remembers how she treated Bell and becomes furious at herself and at Freya.

Together with Ais and Tione, she storms the Freya Familia’s stronghold in anger.

When the “faction war” is declared, the Loki Familia is officially barred from participating.

Tiona is especially dissatisfied and complains loudly to Gareth.

Realizing that “cooperation” is not banned, she and Tione visit Bell anyway.

There, they help adjust Bell’s fighting style after his rank up to Level 5, preparing him for the coming battles.

Deep Floors Expedition and the Corrupted Spirit

During the expedition to the deep floors to defeat the Corrupted Spirit, Tiona fights on the terrifying 60th floor, also called the “Demon World.”

There, she and the others encounter a corrupted Ais and her wind-based clone body.

In that battle, a slash of wind from Ais’s doppelganger severs Tiona’s right arm and tears open her side, leaving her on the verge of death.

Finn Deimne’s throwing magic, “Tír na nÓg,” collapses the floor, causing a massive fall that Tiona narrowly avoids.

However, she is then parasitized by a monster known as a Parasitic Worm.

The creature reattaches her right arm in a twisted, monstrous form and puppets her body, turning her into a horrific sight.

When Bell and the advance team arrive to rescue her, they find Tiona controlled by the parasite.

Bell forces the parasite to transfer into his own body and then incinerates it, burning himself to save Tiona without killing her.

The root-like remnants in Tiona’s body disappear when the Corrupted Spirit is defeated.

Even so, her right arm remains in its grotesque, altered state.

Back on the surface, she is admitted to the Dian Cecht Familia’s treatment facility.

With Amid out of commission for a time, Tiona expects a long hospital stay and is seen happily napping in her private room, her usual carefree self returning.

Tiona specializes in close-quarters combat using Amazoness martial techniques and heavy-blade weaponry.

Her primary weapon is the enormous twin-bladed greatsword “Urga,” which she wields with astonishing strength and speed.

Though she cannot use magic, her physical abilities and development abilities are extremely high.

Among the Loki Familia executives, she has one of the most well-balanced status spreads.

Her Strength is second only to Gareth within the familia.

With sufficient equipment and proper conditions, she can even destroy adamantite, one of the hardest metals.

She possesses two powerful skills that increase her offensive power the more she is wounded or pushed to the brink.

Because of this, people say that Tiona and Tione are at their strongest when cornered and half-dead.

Tiona also excels at teamwork, especially with her sister.

The Hiryute twins’ combined assaults are infamous for crushing enemies like devils on a rampage.

Level 6

After the expedition leading to the defeat of the Corrupted Spirit, Tiona ranks up to Level 6.

Her exact numerical status at Level 6 has not yet been revealed.

Fist Strike

The exact details have not been formally explained.

It likely enhances the power and effectiveness of unarmed strikes.

Underwater Combat

This ability boosts performance during underwater activities.

It reduces water resistance and pressure effects while increasing the power of strikes and movement in water.

Tiona and Tione frequently hunted sea monsters before coming to Orario.

These experiences likely triggered the manifestation of this ability.

Thanks to this, the Hiryute sisters can stay submerged for at least an hour without issue.

Whether this is purely due to the ability or also training is unclear.

Abnormal Resistance

Abnormal Resistance allows Tiona to resist or reduce the effects of status abnormalities.

This includes poisons, curses, and other debilitating conditions.

Crushing

The Crushing ability remains largely unexplained in the story.

It is believed to increase the destructive power or scale of her physical attacks, especially against hard targets.

Berserk (Enraged Chaos – variant: Madness-Inviting Turmoil)

Tiona has a Berserk-type skill that increases her attack power each time she takes damage.

It is effectively the same class of skill as Tione’s “Enraged Chaos” but functions differently.

In Tiona’s case, the power-up is purely damage-based rather than emotion-based.

The more she is hurt in battle, the stronger her blows become, making her extremely dangerous in prolonged fights.

Intense Heat

“Intense Heat” is a rare skill that activates when Tiona is near death.

In that state, all of her abilities receive a massive boost.

The harsher the crisis and the closer she is to the brink, the more her combat power skyrockets.

She sometimes intentionally allows herself to be pushed to near-lethal conditions to trigger a reversal using this skill.

Because of this risk-taking style, her battles can look reckless and terrifying.

But for Tiona, this is simply how she loves to fight: laughing in the face of danger.

Urga

Urga is Tiona’s signature weapon: a massive double-bladed greatsword.

It was custom-made by the Goibniu Familia specifically for her.

The weapon is forged from adamantite and ranks among the heaviest weapons in existence.

In return, it boasts immense durability and overwhelming destructive power.

When Tiona swings Urga, most monsters are reduced to pieces.

With her natural strength and skills, Urga turns her into a walking disaster zone.

However, the weapon is infamous among smiths as a nightmare to produce.

It requires huge amounts of rare, extremely hard adamantite and demands near nonstop forging by multiple blacksmiths.

Despite all this, Urga has been broken multiple times in the story.

The current one is at least the third generation.

Urga’s price is about 120 million valis, an enormous sum.

Even at the time of the second-generation Urga, Tiona’s profile listed her net worth as minus 89 million valis.

Because of this, she may actually be more in debt than some deities known for massive borrowing.

Her love for Urga and tendency to break it keeps her finances perpetually in the red.

Blade Roland

During the deep-floor expedition, a new type of monster capable of exuding corrosive liquid appears.

To counter this, Tsubaki Collbrande of the Hephaistos Familia forges the “Roland” series of unbreakable weapons.

One of these, the greatsword “Blade Roland,” is given to Tiona.

It possesses “unbreakable” properties suited to enduring corrosive attacks.

Originally Tiona wanted a double-blade design like Urga for Blade Roland.

However, Tsubaki stated that such a version would not be ready in time, so Tiona settled for a single-bladed greatsword.

Even so, Blade Roland is a powerful and reliable weapon in the deep floors.

It serves as a temporary but crucial replacement for Urga in that expedition.

Tiona is a lifelong lover of hero tales, a passion that started in her childhood in Telskyura.

Her knowledge of these stories rivals even that of Bell Cranel.

Her favorite story is the comedic hero tale “Argonaut.”

She believes this story saved her life by making her laugh when she was in pain and misery.

Tiona considers herself “saved by Argonaut.”

When she meets Bell and sees him fight the one-horned Minotaur, she is convinced he is the Argonaut she had always wanted to meet.

From then on, she calls Bell “Argonaut-kun” and follows his journey with genuine joy.

She supports him from the sidelines, trains with him, and feels immense satisfaction watching his growth.

Her famous line reflects this deeply: she loves “the comedy story that made her smile in painful, sad times.”

Bell, to her, is the living continuation of that story.

In the mobile game “Memoria Freese,” the second-anniversary “Argonaut” event introduces a fortune-teller named Orna who closely resembles Tiona.

She is widely believed to be Tiona’s reincarnation from the ancient era.

Orna serves as another main heroine of the Argonaut story alongside Ariadne.

Unlike Tiona, Orna is initially emotionless, pessimistic, and deeply disillusioned with the world.

She rarely smiles and views the hero Argonaut (Bell’s past life) as a foolish dreamer.

However, staying by his side and watching his actions gradually changes her.

As she witnesses Argonaut’s unyielding courage and hope, Orna begins to regain her emotions.

She becomes more expressive and eventually comes to accept and cherish his ideals.

Near the end of the story, Argonaut loses his eyesight.

Orna promises to carry on and tell the stories of heroes in his stead.

In the modern era, she is remembered as one of the “three great ancient poets,” known as “Orna the Storyteller.”

Her role as a keeper of legends parallels Tiona’s own love for hero tales in the present.

Tiona’s title “Great Severing (Amazon)” has multiple layers of reference.

“Amazon” directly invokes the all-female warrior tribe from Greek mythology, the origin of the race name “Amazoness” in the series.

The “Great Severing” portion can also be read as “Amazon” in Japanese wordplay.

In addition, it references “Kamen Rider Amazon,” whose finishing move is called “Great Severing,” tying into her overwhelming, chopping combat style.

Although often called an idiot, Tiona learned to read unexpectedly fast and even taught her sister the common tongue.

This contrast between “battle idiot” and hidden studiousness is a charming part of her character.

She is heavily indebted thanks to Urga’s cost, possibly rivaling even famously indebted gods.

Despite this, her carefree attitude remains unchanged; she is happy as long as she can fight, laugh, and read hero tales with her friends.
