He was an old acquaintance of Olivia and, knowing her circumstances, treated Robin, who was persecuted by those around her, without prejudice, and bestowed the title of "archaeologist" on young Robin. He was engaged in life-threatening research on the "True History" with other archaeologists, but knowing the dangers, he tried not to involve Robin. He was acquainted with Dr. Vegapunk and Dragon.

He was obsessed with the "Void Century" and was once an adventurer seeking documents from around the world. In the process, he was arrested and imprisoned by the Navy 10 times, becoming the world's most famous archaeologist. Scholars impressed by Clover gathered, making Ohara a holy land of archaeology.

He presented a hypothesis on the reason for the existence of the "True History" to the Five Elders, but was shot by Spandine. During the Buster Call, he remained in the Tree of Knowledge to protect the books until his death.
