Makoto Sunakawa

Born on September 13th, a first-year student at Seiin High School. Referred to as "Suna" by Takeo. Moved into the apartment next to Takeo's when he was three years old, and they have been inseparable best friends and classmates ever since. Suna is very cool and may seem unapproachable at first glance, but he's a really great guy who cares about others without making a big show of it. He judges situations calmly, is quiet but speaks his mind clearly, and although he's the opposite of the impulsive Takeo, they have their similarities. In particular, when confessions come from girls who speak ill of Takeo, Suna rejects them with cutting words. He has plenty in common with Takeo, teasing him occasionally and delivering cool responses to Rinko, and he also displays a mischievous side. Suna is quite handsome and has always been popular with girls, but he considers dating to be "troublesome." Not that he isn't interested in women, but he doesn't pay them much attention usually. He had a good impression of Rinko right from the start when she said Takeo was "cool." After the two started dating, he watched over them warmly. He cares about Takeo's happiness more than anyone, and when Takeo consults him about Rinko, Suna gives advice with genuine concern. Though he doesn't often show his emotions, he smiles at Takeo's headstrong actions. He doesn't neglect his studies at home and does well in school. Suna is also fond of children, teaching English to baby Maki and caring for them.

On the other hand, when his father collapsed, Suna kept his anxiety to himself without consulting anyone, and he also felt a sense of loneliness seeing Takeo grow and become independent without relying on him, showing a glimpse of his clumsy and fragile nature.

Suna was covertly admired since kindergarten by Yuriko, who confessed her feelings after ten years. After talking more often thanks to Takeo and Rinko's plotting, and even going to the zoo together, Suna expressed his gratitude for the decade's worth of chocolates and letters, gave her a return gift, and sadly turned her down, saying "I'm sorry." However, he didn't dislike her; he even told Takeo that he thought Yuriko was "nice." Although he usually doesn't resort to violence, he showed another side of himself when he punched Takeo, who was trying to distance himself from Rinko after she moved to Spain, and scolded him, saying "You're wrong."
