He has a strong sense of duty towards his country, is honest and serious, and is highly trusted by the people. When asked a question, he has a habit of adding irrelevant information. Even after becoming king, he lives in the village at the foot of the mountain, "Big Horn," instead of Drum Castle. Luffy's nickname for him is "Acorn Old Man."

He is a user of the Zoan-type Devil Fruit "Ushi Ushi no Mi Model Bison," which gives him great leg strength and powerful arms. The ability makes him somewhat temperamental, but he controls his temperament through training.

He has served the country since the era of the previous king of Drum Kingdom, and during Wapol's reign, he was the captain of the guard. In the Drum Island arc, he was initially hostile to Luffy when he landed in the country, but his attitude changed to cooperative when he heard Wapol's name. He confronted the returning Wapol and overwhelmed his former subordinates, but was shot by an arrow fired at civilians exploited by Chess, and was then caught in an avalanche caused by Lapahn. After being treated by Isshi-20 and recovered from a frozen state, he headed to Drum Castle, ready to confront Wapol despite his severe injuries. When he learned that Luffy and Chopper had defeated Wapol and his men, he expressed his gratitude, saying, "Drum Kingdom will surely be reborn."

After Luffy and his crew left, he was elected King of "Sakura Kingdom" through an election. In the World Conference arc, he reunited with Vivi in Mariejois and enjoyed talking about Luffy with Rebecca and others. He restrained Wapol, who teased Vivi, and continued to be wary of him.
