When he was chosen by the grimoire of Mimicry Magic, he mocked himself, saying it suited an “empty” person like him.

However, he was quietly moved when Licht told him that he probably received Mimicry Magic because he loves watching people, and that it is a gentle magic that can only be used by someone who looks at others sincerely.

Walter often pretends to be indifferent or resigned, but his actions reveal lingering kindness and attachment to others.

He carries a heavy sense of guilt and responsibility, especially regarding the fate of the elves and how his choices contributed to ongoing tragedy.

His magic allows him to copy other people's spells by fulfilling clear conditions and then cast them with his own magical power.

Walter can instinctively tell if a person is lying.

Because of this, he recognizes truth and falsehood on a level other characters cannot easily match.

Using this power, he confirmed that Asta’s dream of becoming Wizard King and creating a nation free of discrimination contained no deception.

He also saw that the words spoken by Ronne, who was possessed by Zagred, were laced with lies.

Among the elves, Walter was the only one — aside from the real Licht — who understood that Lemiel Silvamillion Clover had not betrayed them.

Even so, he deliberately hid this truth to avoid weakening the elves’ hatred toward humans and, deep down, because he wanted to see the real Licht and their fellow elves again.

Walter is a central member of the Eye of the Midnight Sun’s Three Eyes and plays a complex, morally gray role.

He stands at the crossroads between truth and lies, often understanding more than he reveals.

He knowingly concealed the fact that Lemiel Silvamillion Clover had not betrayed the elves.

By keeping silent, he allowed Patry’s hatred toward humans to continue burning, which ultimately helped Zagred’s grand plan move forward as intended.

Encounter in Nean’s Cave

Walter first appears when he comes to aid Licht (in reality Patry in Licht’s body), who had collapsed in the cave of Nean.

He intervenes and clashes with Charlotte Roselei.

During this conflict, Licht (Patry) loses control and begins to rampage.

Walter, together with Charlotte and Licht (Patry), uses Sealing Magic to stop the rampage temporarily and then withdraws.

Afterward, Walter infiltrates the Clover Kingdom by using his magic to transform into one of the Magic Knight Squad captains.

He moves among humans under this disguise, gathering information and advancing the Eye of the Midnight Sun’s plans.

Battle at the Eye of the Midnight Sun’s Hideout

Later, at the Eye of the Midnight Sun’s hideout, Walter fights Mereoleona Vermillion.

Despite his high status and ability, he proves completely outmatched by Mereoleona’s overwhelming power.

Like the other members of the Three Eyes, Walter attempts to use a self-destruction spell to take his enemy with him when defeat seems certain.

Asta stops this, preventing Walter from killing himself and others in a final blast.

During this confrontation, Walter hears Asta tell Mereoleona about his dream: becoming Wizard King and creating a world without discrimination.

Walter’s heart is briefly shaken by Asta’s sincerity, which he can confirm through his lie-detecting ability.

Even so, Walter insists that things have gone too far and cannot be stopped.

Soon after, the reincarnation magic powered by the magic stones activates, restoring the elves’ original powers, and Walter joins the assault on Asta and his allies.

Shadow Palace and Confrontation with Zagred

When the Shadow Palace appears, Walter becomes aware that the being possessing Ronne is actually Zagred, a high-ranking devil.

He realizes the depth of the manipulation behind the elves’ tragedy.

Almost immediately after noticing Zagred’s presence, Walter is gravely wounded.

He is left on the brink of death during the chaos in the Shadow Palace.

Mimosa Vermillion later arrives with Asta and uses her healing magic to save his life.

Walter survives, but he must live with the knowledge that his decisions helped Zagred’s scheme unfold.

After Zagred is defeated, many reincarnated elves return to the afterlife.

However, Walter, Fana, and Vetto have their souls anchored to their bodies due to undergoing reincarnation a second time.

Realizing they can now live on in the modern world, Walter decides to stay alive together with Fana and Vetto.

They choose not to return to hatred, but to move forward in a new era.

Life in Elysia

Following these events, Walter spends his days in Elysia, a hidden elven sanctuary often referred to as an elven secret land.

There he lives peacefully among surviving elves and allies, away from the front lines of human conflict.

In Elysia, Walter can finally indulge in his simple pleasures: drinking with companions, relaxing in the sunlight, and being surrounded by fellow elves.

This setting offers him a form of quiet redemption and a chance to observe people — and elves — without the shadows of vengeance and manipulation.

Mimicry Magic (Mimicry Attribute)

Walter’s primary power is Mimicry Magic, which allows him to copy other mages’ spells.

The basic condition is that he must touch the other person’s grimoire.

Once a spell is copied, Walter can cast it using his own massive magical power.

If the original caster is an average mage, Walter’s version is usually stronger than the original.

He can even reproduce high-level spells such as Spirit Magic.

The one major exception is Anti Magic: he can copy the physical form of the sword but not its nullifying effects.

When the third eye on his forehead opens, Walter can simultaneously cast multiple spells of the same attribute.

An anime-original spell, which Walter describes as the strongest Water Magic he can currently use.
